The story of the mural

In the TOM car park, two of the largest murals of edition #2 catch every eye. On the right, a hummingbird, the world's smallest bird and Martinique's totem animal, painted by British artist Curtis Hylton, known for murals where fauna and flora merge.

He dressed the bird in island flowers chosen for their symbolism or medicinal virtues: an hibiscus eye, plumage of porcelain roses, passion flowers and alpinias, all in red. The background, first charcoal grey, filled up day after day with soft pink and yellow blooms.

Anecdote: the bird first faced right, then was turned left to face Yelow's mural.
