The story of the mural
In 2024 Martinique saw major protests against the high cost of living, and avenue Maurice Bishop in Sainte-Thérèse was at their heart. There, Oshea, founding member of the Mada Paint collective, painted “Difé Pri”, Creole for “the fire has caught”.
The red, green and black of the Martinican flag and the clenched fist (also Mada Paint's emblem) speak of solidarity and resistance; an “O” for Oshea sits beside each fist. Repeated patterns push the eye to the right, forward, and an anamorphic effect changes the image as you move. The fire here is anger, but also purification and renewal.
